Lesson 101: Venomous Snakes in Colorado

There are many venomous snakes in the world, but there are only three in Colorado. These are the Western Massasauga Rattlesnake, the Prairie Rattlesnake, and the Midget Faded Rattlesnake. All three have rattles on their tails, triangular heads, and are most tan with brown spots. The midget faded rattlesnake only grows to about 30 inches. The prairie and the western massasauga rattlesnakes can grow much bigger: up to 5 feet. They are usually found in dry, desert and forest areas. They like to live under rocks and logs. These are the three venomous snakes that live in Colorado.
