Lesson 109: Observing True Crocodiles

Today I learned about crocodiles. Crocodiles are very large reptiles that are almost like dinosaurs. They live in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Australia. They are in the order crocodylia, which also has alligators and other reptiles like that. Their original diet was plants, but now they eat mammals, fish, reptiles, and plants. They are longer and bigger than alligators, and their snout is more narrow. They are very good swimmers, because they have a streamlined body and webbed feet. Crocodiles, like all animals in the crocodilian family, have a pouch in their throat that blocks water from going into their throat while they are eating under water. They also have eyes on top of their heads, so they can see above the water while the rest of its body is under water. This helps them sneak up on prey. These are the most interesting things I learned about the crocodile today.
