Lesson 41: Observing Falcons

Falcons are birds of prey that are part of the falconidae family of birds. There are about 60 kinds of birds in this family. They hunt using their sharp talons to grab their prey and keep it still, and use their sharp, hooked beak to tear the prey apart. They are also very fast and have amazing eyesight. The peregrine falcon can dive over 200 mph, and it is the fastest animal in the whole world. Falcons usually target the wings of birds that they are hunting instead of any other part of the body. They do this so the bird cannot fly away and will fall on the ground. Then the falcon will eat it. People train falcons to hunt for them. This is called falconry. Falcons are amazing creatures. I’m happy that I got to share them with you.
